The Women of Shine. Come and meet us...

The Shine programs have been just amazing for me. They have taken my health to a whole new level.

I felt really ready for this work on my wellbeing and the very deep connections to nature and the holistic approaches weaved throughout Shine's wellbeing programs is truely unique. This awareness and hence connection to the seasons has given so much more value and meaning to my own approaches to my health and wellbeing.

Being part of the Shine Pod community is a really lovely addition to journeying in a program and I felt supported and very empowered by both Charlott and Shauna and their expertise.

"I have now journeyed through all of Shines seasonal wellbeing programs and my connection and awareness of the seasonal influences on my health and behaviour is the greatest gift to my wellbeing. The sense of presence, the essence of connection, the focus on self care and love, the weave of ritual and the holistic focus on the whole trilogy in mind body and spirit is truely unique."

What is the current state of Australian women’s health and wellbeing?

Australian women are currently struggling to make their health and wellbeing a priority as evident in the findings of Australia’s most recent women’s population study (1).

This Women’s Health Survey of 2018, collected health and wellbeing data on over 15000 Australian women, aged 18 years and over and its findings are alarming for the trajectory of women’s health outcomes (1).

  • Two thirds of surveyed women felt nervous and or anxious on a day to day basis.

  • Almost half of these women had been professionally diagnosed with depression and or anxiety.

  • Over a third of surveyed women reported that they didn't get time to themselves on a weekly basis.

  • Over half of the women described themselves as overweight or obese.

  • Just under half the women aged 18-35 years and staggering 80% of older women perceived their overall health as less than ideal.

  • Face to face education was the most popular and preferred ways to receive health information (3).

Why is it crucial to implement holistic preventive wellbeing healthcare to young women?

It is universally understood that the developmental stages of childhood through to young adulthood affect the long term trajectory of health and wellbeing outcomes for later lifespans.

During a young women's teens years, in which major biological and psychosocial changes are occurring, there is a highly significant opportunity through which pathways can be set that either move us toward health and wellbeing or away from health and wellbeing.

Holistic health and wellbeing education that empowers young women to be active participants in their own health experiences and to value their health as part of a lifestyle approach is the keystone to improving health outcomes both for the individual and our community.
